Academic Education

General Information

Academic Education aims at providing the Cadets with knowledge and skills on the domain of their specialty. At the same time it aims at the cultivation of creative scientific thought and the familiarization with research so that the future officers of the Hellenic Air Force be capable of complying with the evolution of air systems.

Academic Education is conducted in the form of teaching in class and is complemented with practical applications in the Academy laboratories, as well as with educational visits.

Within the framework of Academic Education, Educational visits to Air Force and Armed Forces Units, State Institutions and Civil Services are organized, as well as Lectures on General Education concerning current national issues, issues on flight and ground safety and sanitary conditions. Educational Trips are also organized.

Furthermore, the Cadets are divided into different levels in English and French according to their existing knowledge.

Duties and Responsibilities of Departments

EDUCATION DEPARTMENT

The mission of the Education Department is to schedule, control, materialize, upgrade and solve any educational problems as well as to inform the teaching staff and the Cadets on educational issues relevant to them.

TEACHING STAFF DEPARTMENT

The mission of the Teaching Staff Department is to apply the necessary employment procedures, to schedule the teaching staff (teachers – military instructors), to inform them and solve any problems concerning educational issues relevant to them.

EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT DEPARTMENT

The mission of the Educational Support Department is to implement the necessary procedures on the provision and supply of the educational reference books, means and materials which support the education provided.

LABORATORY DEPARTMENT

The mission of the Laboratory Department is to apply practical training, so as to familiarize the Cadets with the modern technical equipment of the Air Force.

SPECIALTY AND SUBJECT SUPERVISORS

The Specialty and Subject Supervisors (Education Supervisors) are the link between the Cadets and the Academic Education Directorate. The mission of the Supervisors is to provide Academic Education and to improve the education provided (Designing a General Syllabus for each specialty), so that it keeps apace with the technological advances of the air force. The Specialty Supervisor monitors and controls the Cadets’ progress in his specialty and applies or proposes the necessary measures in each case for distinguished or weak students.

 For the successful implementation of the Academic Education programs, the following support means are available in the Academy:

25 classrooms equipped with modern teaching aids are available.

The laboratories available in the Academy, equipped with advanced lab equipment, are the following:

LIBRARIES

There is one Lending Library in the Academy. 1,500 book titles of varied content are available. The library is a subscriber to both Foreign and Greek magazines.
