114 Combat Wing
MissionThe mission of the 114 CW, is to maintain a high level of readiness and effectiveness. It is achieved by the appropriate organization, training of personnel and maintenance of the available means and systems. Furthermore, the undertaking and carrying out of air operations, at any given time, in total success. OrganizationThe unit is organized according to the typical Combat Wing organization. History
331 All Weather Squadron
The first 4 M-2000 landed at 114 CW on August 27, 1988, assigned to the 331Sqn and pilot training on the new aircraft started. The first pilots chosen to man the new aircraft, were very experienced with many flight hours in Mirage F-1CG and F-4E aircraft. After the acquisition of the new Mirage 2000-5 and the upgrading of the existing types, the force capacity is greatly increased. 332 All Weather Squadron
On November 1st, 1989, the first 14 Mirage 2000 were delivered to the 332 Sqn. The first Squadron pilots were experienced in Mirage F-1CG and F-4E Phantom II aircraft types. In November 1990 the 332 Sqn was successfully evaluated from the Hellenic Tactical Air Force (HTAF). Since then the 332 Sqn entered into alertness and interception missions above the Aegean sea. The flight training is handled by the Mirage 2000 Training Flight which continues to train the new pilots, who man the flights, till today. After the acquisition of the new Mirage 2000-5 and the upgrading of the existing types, the force capacity is greatly increased. 342 All Weather Squadron
With this aircraft type and the same role the Squadron continues its operation till 1964, when the F-86E were replaced by the F-84F aircraft. From that time till 1969 the 342 Sqn changed its role and became a Fighter Bomber Sqn. In 1969 the Sqn is equipped with F-102 aircraft and operates as an All Weather Intercept Squadron. In 1975 the 342 Sqn is outfitted with the MIRAGE F-1C aircraft. In August 1975 the first two F-1C landed at Tanagra Air Base. In May 1976 all personnel, pilots and technicians were ready and the Sqn becomes fully operational. Since 1976, the Sqn takes part in all National and many NATO and allied exercises. Since June 2003, after the retirement of Mirage F1-CG aircraft, the operation of the 342 Sqn has been suspended. |
