On This Day July 17th, 1960
Within the framework of the Greek participation in UNICOM (Congo), a cluster of 2 Dakota C-47 aircraft of the 355 Transit Squadron with 24 officers and non-commissioned officers, following a decision made by the Greek Government, took off from Elefsina Airport to Salisbury, South Rhodesia (arrival after two days). The goal of the mission, led by lieutenant Colonel Georgios Yalelis, was to transport the expatriates from the rebellious areas of Congo to other safe ones. Mission ended on July 31st, 1960.

A decision is made by the Ministry of Air Force (Middle East) to establish the Supreme Air Force Administration in place of the abolished Senior Air Force and Naval Air Force Administrations in order to properly operate and monitor the Hellenic Air Force Departments.
