In the framework of the 2008 Programme of Military Cooperation between the Hellenic and the People’s Republic of China, HAF staff officers paid a visit to Beijing and Qing Dao.
Τhe HAF delegation, in the presence of the Hellenic Defence Attach?, held discussions on natural disaster response issues and was briefed on the role, mission and training of the PLA Natural Disaster Intervention Teams and their extraordinary contribution during the rescue operations, which followed the recent catastrophic earthquakes.
The HAF staff officers had had a chance to brief their PLA counterparts on the role, mission and training of the HAF Disaster Response Team (KOMAK) and its contribution to Piraeus harbour security during the 2004 Olympic Games as well during the devastating forest fires in 2007.
Within an excellent climate of hospitality, the two sides discussed possible ways of promoting further cooperation in the field of natural disaster response.
