In the framework of the 2008 Programme of Military Cooperation between the Hellenic and the Arab Republic of Egypt, HAF staff officers paid a visit to Cairo between 14 and 17 June 2008.
Τhe HAF delegation, in the presence of the Director General of the National Crisis Management Centre held discussions on natural disaster response issues and were briefed on the role, mission and training of the Egyptian Engineering Corps and the Civil Defence.
The Officer Commanding HAF Engineering Wing (MAK) and HAF General Staff officers had had a chance to brief their Egyptian counterparts on the role, mission and training of the HAF Disaster Response Team (KOMAK) and its contribution to Piraeus harbour security during the 2004 Olympic Games as well during the devastating forest fires in 2007.
Within an excellent climate of hospitality, the two sides discussed possible ways of promoting further cooperation in the field of natural disaster response.
