F-16 Blk 52+ Aircraft Hoisting

From Tuesday 28th of June up until Thursday 7th of July 2016, in the marine area south of Crete, the hoisting of parts and major compartments of an F-16 Blk 52+ Aircraft was carried out in order to determine the exact causes of the accident. The aircraft has crashed there due to mechanical failure at the 4th of December of 2014.

In the operation that took place at a depth of approximately 1000m, the participants consisted of expert officers of the HAF who constitute the Aircraft Accident Investigation Committee, divers of the HAF Underwater Operations Team and research staff of the Hellenic Centre of Marine Research (HCMR) who were tasked with the hoisting.

All the participants were onboard the Oceanographic Vessel “Aegean”.
