HAF’s T-2E Buckeye crash

On Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at 08:50, during a flight instructor training course with a T-2E Buckeye(Spinning exercise), abandonment of the aircraft was performed 7-nautical miles north of Sparta, resulting in the rescue of the co-pilot through the use of his parachute, while the Pilot Major(P) Nikolaos Vasileiou was found deceased in the surrounding area of the crash site.

The two (2) Pilots were of great experience with a total of about 2,500 hours of flight each.

The Hellenic Air Force General Staff has appointed an expert committee to investigate the accident.
