The first order of Gloster “Mars” VI Nighthawk interceptor, constructed by Great Britain, was placed in 1922, in order to confront the serious lack of available interceptor airplanes during the Asia Minor campaign. They were received in January 1923 and by April of the same year equipped the 5th Fighter Squadron, which was especially created for the “Mars”. Until 1935, it was the only type of interceptor in service. They were later used for advanced pilot training by the Air Force Academy until 1939. They were finally all destroyed in 1941.
