Six YS-11A, formerly operating with the Olympic Airways, were delivered to Hellenic Air Force in 1981.
This twin-engine Japanese aircraft could carry 60 passengers. One of them was used for VIP flights.
Although considered as a temporary solution to the procurement of new light transport aircraft, they proved to be valuable in lessening the burden of the rest, more specialized, transport aircraft. Their photographs are prized amongst aviation enthusiasts as they probably are the only Japanese built military fixed wing aircraft in Europe.
