Mission
The 390 Squadron’s Mission is to maintain a high level of readiness and effectiveness, in order to conduct successful intelligence surveillance reconnaissance, in day and night, whenever needed in accordance with current plans. It is achieved by the appropriate organization, training of personnel and maintenance of the available means and systems.
History
The 390 UAV’s Squadron is the first Squadron utilizing Unmanned Aerial Systems for the Hellenic Air Force.
It was initially formed as a Flight Section by decision of the Supreme Air Council in January 2003.
The Squadron’s headquarters were situated at the 131 Combat Group in Aktion, Preveza and PEGASUS I was used as an unmanned aircraft.
In May 2005, the effort for the construction of PEGASUS II began with the aim of creating a modern UAS of MALE class (Medium-Altitude Long-Endurance).
In December 2008, the Flight Section was organized into an Aircraft Squadron under the name of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Squadron.
Ιn August 2017, the Squadron was transferred from Aktion Airport to the 110 Combat Wing, at Larissa Air Base.
In June 2021, the Squadron was equipped with the MALE class HERON I Unmanned Aircraft System.
The renaming to 390 UAV’s Squadron in September 2022 reflects the particularly increased operational role of the Squadron with missions throughout Athens FIR.
The 390 UAV’s Squadron operates covering the full range of requirements arising from its assigned mission.
