Mission

The Hellenic Air Defence Notification Center’s mission is to provide air traffic information to Declaration Units of the Air Command and Control System, in accordance with granted licenses for over flights and landings of foreign military aircraft in the vicinity of Athens Flight Information Region and control of civil aviation aircraft that willing to land to Hellenic Air Force’s Airports, if they have the authority to do so, for the propose of assisting the declaration task.

History

The Hellenic Air Defence Notification Center was established on January 1968, 10th in Elliniko. The Hellenic Air Defence Notification Center was subordinated to 28th Hellenic Tactical Air Force.

On May 1970,1st the Center was merged with Joint Rescue Coordination Center and Athens Area Control Center under the name of Rescue and Air Traffic Information Service, located in Athens International Airport.

In 1973, due to relocation of Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority’s Services the Center was also relocated and connected with Air Command and Control System’s Units.

On March 1976, 2nd The Hellenic Air Defence Notification Center was disaggregated from the Rescue and Air Traffic Information Service.

In 1996, a new console with RADAR information of the new air traffic system of “PALLAS” was placed.

In 1997, the connection between Air Command and Control System’s Units and Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority’s Services was established by Aeronautical Fixed Telecommunication Network/Common ICAO Data Interchange Network (AFTN/CIDIN).

In 1999, the Hellenic Air Defence Notification Center was transferred to new operational room.

In December 2007 Air Traffic Services (ATS) System was installed.
